Import of organic products from EU-recognized third countries
The European Commission has recognised that a few third countries operate production rules and a system of inspection for some products equivalent to those operating within the EU. These countries are known as 11.1 countries (Argentina, Australia, Israel, Switzerland, Costa Rica, New Zealand). These do not need an import licence as long as:
the certification was done by one of the inspection bodies listed under Commission Regulation (EEC) No 94/92. These are certification bodies which have inspection systems equivalent to those of other EU Inspection bodies,
a certificate of inspection is produced for each consignment by one of the approved third country inspection bodies listed in Annex to Regulation (EEC) 94/92 as amended. It will need to be checked and endorsed by a Customs Official at the point of entry.
