Restructuring and Conversion Scheme

 

Background

Council Regulation (EC) n.1493 of 17 May 1999 on the common organisation of the market in wine, with the purpose of adapting the production of wine to market demand, has established a system of support for the restructuring and conversion of vineyards.

The aim of the measure is to adapt production to market demand, to accelerate structural improvement and strengthen competitiveness, by replacing low-quality vines with better quality vineyards and/or improving vineyard management techniques.

Summary of Scheme

The system covers the following measures:

   (a) varietals conversion, including by means of grafting-on;

   (b) relocation of vineyards;

   (c) improvements to vineyard management techniques.

How to apply

 

Applications may be lodged between 19th December 2006 and 31st January 2007 at the Viticulture & Oenology Unit at the National Agricultural R&D Centre, Ghammieri, Marsa. The relevant documentation referred to in the Restructuring Plan should be presented to the Viticulture and Oenology Unit.

Additional Aid

Background

This scheme forms part of the Special Market Policy Programme for Maltese Agriculture (SMPPMA) which was negotiated with the EU upon accession and forms an integral part of the accession treaty.

Summary of Scheme

This scheme aims at providing additional support to grape growers to cover the maintenance of their vineyards and for improving the quality of their product.  The additional aid amounts to Lm 35 per tumolo.

This scheme is valid up to 2014 and applies both for wine grapes and for table grapes. Area for inclusion under this scheme is of 0.5 Tumoli.

How to apply

Applications may be lodged at the IACS section at the National Agricultural R&D Centre, Ghammieri, Marsa. The obligatory presentation of the yearly harvest declaration to the Viticulture and Oenology Unit is a pre-requisite for access to this scheme.
