The Unit is involved in various projects pertaining to the area of Viticulture & Oenology.

• Currently the Unit is implementing an EU funded twinning project on Viticulture which aims at training the Unit's staff to be able to fulfill Malta's responsibilities with EU membership. (More information can be found by clicking on the icon in the left hand column);

• A continuation of the above twinning with a focus on Oenology is being prepared and should start shortly;

• Various scientific studies on viticulture are being planned by the Unit to acquire data to improve the viticultural techniques in Malta;

• A monitoring programme has been launched in which the flights of the most important vineyard insect pest (Grape moth) will be monitored in various parts of Malta & Gozo;

• Comparative irrigation trials are being carried out in Malta & Gozo to better understand the effect of the Maltese climate on the production of grapes.
